Velana International Airport (VIA) has automated their cargo system and introduce a mobile app for the customers.
The automated system, COSIS, was installed at VIA by Singaporean company Stes.
The system was launched at VIA by MACL’s Managing Director Adil Moosa and Commissioner General of Maldives Customs Services, Ibrahim Shareef.
MACL stated that the new system integrates airlines and customs, and enable easier cargo handling. VIA will now be able to get all the cargo information from flights before they land at the airport, through this system.
“Previously, customers and even the customs did not know how a shipment arrived at the airport. But with COSIS, customers can receive all the information about their shipment and can ready themselves for cargo clearance by the time the shipment arrives,” Assistant Manager for Cargo Service, Ibrahim Khaleel said.
COSIS was launched at VIA after fully integrating Customs Asycuda system so that cargo information can be shared with customs before a shipment arrives. With the new system, airlines can also receive updates on the shipments.
Customers can check flight schedules and their cargo status through the mobile app that was launched today. The app is now available for download on the app store and play store.
The COSIS system is currently in operation in 16 stations in 11 countries – Maldives is the 17th airport to integrate this system.
