Guesthouse Association of Maldives (GAM) shares concern over the postponement on reopening guesthouse properties in Maldives.

As such, the association in their press statement notes the delay will increase the setbacks for local tourism businesses.

Earlier, the Tourism Standard Operational Procedure made mention of local tourism reopening on 1 August.

Meanwhile, government’s decision to reopen borders revitalized the tourism industry with prospective bookings.

However, the industry remains yet to propel at full form in the coming months as most properties are still not open on official capacity.

GAM notes the delay in reopening guesthouse properties will offset the favoring outcome in tourists visiting tourist resorts.

Tourist resorts in Maldives are mainly notable for being high-end and luxurious while guesthouses are the cheaper and budget-traveler options.
