India extend USD500m support for Greater Male’ Connectivity Project

Government of India on Thursday made the announcement of extending USD500 million in funding towards the Greater Male’ Connectivity Project.

Earlier, on Thursday afternoon the announcement came through the digital video conference between Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.

Moreover, Foreign Ministry reveals the project aims to link Male’ with Vilingili and Thilafushi along with Gulhifalhu via bridges and causeways.

Furthermore the project entails development of the connecting structures spanning 6.695 kilo meters in length.

Once completed the Greater Male’ Connectivity project will be the single largest infrastructure project in Maldives.

Additionally the talks held on Thursday between the dignitaries made emphasis on the sea links between Maldives and India; discussing ways to enhance trade and commerce.

Meanwhile, the dignitaries made announcement of a cargo ferry service between Cochin, Kulhudhuffushi-Male’ to commence within the next few months.
