The total Green Tax collection for May 2020 observes steep decline, giving evidence to the challenging times in Maldives tourism industry.

Moreover, Ministry of Finance in Green Fund Report for review month confirms total collection at MVR7.96 million.

However, the Green Tax collection for the previous month stood at MVR35.8 million.

Earlier, Maldives government made declaration of closing the country’s borders.

Subsequently the country’s tourism industry came to a halt following the decision.

Government further made confirmation of cancelling on-arrival tourist visas on 27 March – thus stalling tourist arrivals to Maldives.

Meanwhile the strongest Green Tax collection came from Kaafu atoll – which holds the highest number of tourist facilities inclusive of guesthouses.

As per Green Fund Report, total collection from Kaafu atoll stood at MVR3.02 million.

On the other hand, Baa atoll’s collection stood at MVR1.44 million.

Green Tax collection exclusive of liveaboards and vessels stood at MVR7.6 million. The collection exclusively from liveaboards and vessels stood at MVR404,664.
