Over 5,000 tourists fly to Maldives post border reopening


Maldives Immigration confirms over 5,000 tourists flying to the island nation for vacation post border reopening.

According to the department’s recent statistics a total of 5,177 tourists have flown to Maldives since the country’s borders officially opened on 15 July 2020.

Moreover, statistics are based for the period from 15 July until 15 August 2020.

Furthermore, details confirm a total of 3,476 tourist arrivals from 1 August till 15 August 2020.

On the other hand the tourist arrivals from 15 July until 31 July stood at 1,701.

With the recent development, United Arab Emirates, UK along with Spain and Germany took spot as top tourist markets to Maldives.

Earlier, prior to border closure tourist count to the country stood at 350,000.

Meanwhile the state aims for a total 850,000 tourist count from the remainder of the year.

However, tourist arrivals to Maldives still remain significantly below expectations. This comes mainly from the prevalence of Covid-19 pandemic across the world and in Maldives as well.
