The premier air gateway of Maldives, Velana International Airport (VIA) reports record flight movement to the venue since border reopening.
Moreover, VIA reports on 18 September, Friday the airport’s arrival count hit 708.
This is the highest number of international flight movement to the venue since borders reopened back in 15 July 2020.
Earlier, Maldives government took the decision of shutting down borders following the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
Government made confirmation of temporarily cancelling on arrival tourist visas by 27 March 2020. The border closure and cessation of international aviation stretched over an approximate 4 month period.
During Friday’s international arrivals, majority of the tourists arrived in from Russia.
Furthermore, VIA reveals Russia’s Aeroflot carried 335 passengers to Maldives, while Etihad carried 13 and Emirates arrived with 153 passengers.
Qatar Airways made landing at VIA carrying 121 passengers.
Additionally, statistics reveal Turkish Airline carried 5 passengers, Sri Lankan with 16 arrivals and Maldivian national carrier landing with 65 passengers.
On the other hand, departures on the date stood at 597.
