Royal Island Resort recently came under government scrutiny after it was found of violating local regulations regarding sand reclamation.

Moreover, the Maldives government fined Royal Island Resort for MVR83,750 for said breach.

It is legally prohibited to reclaim or collect sand from local islands – inhabited or uninhabited without proper permission.

Meanwhile Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) corroborates the incident noting the resort island faced state imposed fine.

Furthermore, EPA claims the resort’s management was earlier ordered to cease their operation of sand reclamation from another island, which the resort had refused to comply.

Royal Island Resort comes under locally renowned businessman Qasim Ibrahim’s Villa Shipping and Trading company.
