Initial bid phase to redevelop Hanimaadhoo Airport commences

India’s Export-Import Bank opens window for prequalifications of interested parties to redevelop Hanimaadhoo Airport.

Moreover, the redevelopment project will proceed within the aid of India’s EXIM Bank.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Economic Development reports redevelopment will include expansion of runway and a new terminal.

According to project specifics, the redevelopment entails stretching Hanimaadhoo Airport runway to 2,460 meters.

The project’s main component will be the construction of a new state-of-the-art passenger terminal spanning 111,000 square feet in area.

Furthermore, the project’s scope include development of an apron spanning 624,000 square feet in area along with various other facilities.

Ministry of Economic Development assures heavier aircraft such as A320s and Boeing 737s will be able to make landing at the runway once completed.

The aim remains to connect Maldives with international borders via more than one international gateway, and Hanimaadhoo Airport will link with South Asia, South-East Asia along with East Africa.
