State appoints new cabinet ministers

Maldives state administration, on Wednesday, 05 May 2021 appointed two cabinet ministers as replacements.

Moreover, President of Maldives officiated the appointment of Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan as the new Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture.

On the hand, the former Policy Secretary of President’s Office Aminath Shauna becomes the new Minister of Environment.

The new appointments come following the recent dismissal of both Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal and Zaha Waheed as cabinet ministers.

Waheed held the cabinet responsibilities of Fisheries Ministry until her dismissal officially announced on 4 May 2021.

Earlier, Jamaal was removed from his held position as Minister of Science and Technology through a parliament no confidence motion.

Meanwhile, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih affirms that under new changes the Ministry of Science and Technology will be dissolved into Ministry of Environment.

This decision would mean the formation of a Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology as an amalgamation of both Science and Technology and Environment ministries.
