ENSIS Fisheries says their new US$ 20 million factory is nearing completion.
The factory is slated for an opening in September and is located in Hulhumale’. In addition to the factory, a cold storage facility with a capacity of 1,500 tons will also be constructed.
An official of ENSIS Fisheries reported to local media sources that once in operation, the factory will be able to process and can around 25 tons of fish. This, the official added, will facilitate expansion into US and European markets. He further noted that this will boost the amount of fish purchased from fishermen.
The company signed an agreement with Housing Development Corporation (HDC) back in August 6, 2015.
In addition to ENSIS Fisheries, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) and Horizon Fisheries also engages in fish canning and export.
