State Electricity Company (STELCO) has announced on the possibility of Greater Male’ Region experiencing power cuts in the upcoming weekend; Friday and Saturday.
The utility provider has mentioned that the electricity cuts may become a possibility amid the energizing works prior to the unified electrical grid becomes fully operational in the region.
Moreover, STELCO had confirmed on concluding the energizing works by Saturday if they do not face any technical oddities during the testing-phase.
On Wednesday, 21 July, Male’ City and Hulhumale’ had experienced power cuts amid the testing phase of the energizing works.
STELCO’s Greater Male’ Electrical Grid will reportedly link the Maldives capital with Hulhumale’ as well as Hulhule’ through two 132kV circuits installed in a 7-kilometer radius.
In addition to this, the utility company had already installed four 95mV transformers in Male’ City and Hulhumale’ with additional 8mV transformers in the latter.
The completed grid will hold the capacity of harnessing and delivering power up to 100 Mega-Watts through the circuits.
Furthermore, the grid will be capable of providing electricity even at the event of power failure in one of the islands in the Greater Male’ Region.
