In their latest statistical update, Ministry of Tourism had revealed tourist arrivals to Maldives exceeding over 575,000 so far in 2021.
According to the state body, the total number of tourist arrivals accounted from 01 January until 21 July of the current year had reached 575,931.
Moreover, the tourist influx is a strong indication towards the country’s economic recovery following heavy impact felt in 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, this is more reflective on the total arrivals to Maldives so far which had already exceeded the annual total of 2020 which had reached just 555,494. On the other hand, the border closure from March until July of the previous year had resulted in the dwindle of tourist arrivals.
As per the latest statistics, Russia maintained its rank as the top tourist market to Maldives in terms of singular country-markets with a total of 136,955. India ranked second with a total arrival of 94,927 so far in the current year.
Germany ranked third with a total of 31,617 arrivals to Maldives so far in 2021.
On the other hand, monthly arrival statistics confirm the total tourist arrivals in July 2021 stood at 65,382 in comparison with just 767 arrivals during the same month of 2020.
In 2020, the island nation’s tourism industry faced an unprecedented drawback in light of the Covid-19 global pandemic, which had resulted in the country’s major economic segment facing heavy pitfalls.
However, if the recent statistics reveal anything it is that the island nation was already making a strong recovery from the previous year’s drivel.
