India takes top source market position; total arrivals exceed 778K

The latest updates from Ministry of Tourism confirm a change in the source market rankings as of 08 September 2021.

Furthermore, the government body confirms that India is currently the top source market with a total arrival of 172,104 so far, which is 21.8% of the total tourist arrivals to the island nation.

In addition to this, Russia, which held the top position for so long slid to second spot with a total arrival of 162,801 so far, which is 20.6% of the total tourist arrivals to Maldives.

Other top source markets to Maldives include;

  • Germany – 46,218 arrivals (5.9%)
  • USA – 31,793 arrivals (4.0%)
  • Ukraine – 27,386 arrivals (3.5%)
  • Saudi Arabia – 26,436 arrivals (3.4%)
  • Spain – 23,102 arrivals (2.9%)
  • United Kingdom – 17,548 arrivals (2.2%)
  • Kazakhstan – 17,460 arrivals (2.2%)
  • France – 15,067 arrivals (1.9%)

Moreover, the total tourist arrivals to Maldives as of 08 September has reached 788,846. Meanwhile the tourist arrivals from 01 until 08 September stood at 32,880 which marks a 10.4% increase in comparison with the same period in 2019 and a 1,329.6% in comparison with the corresponding period of last year.
