According to Ministry of Tourism, only four tourist resorts opened so far in 2021.
Moreover, the government body had confirmed the properties that opened in the current year include Patina Maldives, Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Kuda Vilingili and Le Meridien Maldives Resort and Spa.
Furthermore, from the four resort openings so far in 2021, the most high-profile tourist resort opening had been Ritz-Carlton’s first Maldivian property.
Earlier, the Maldives government stated on a total 18 new resort openings slated for the current year while the country’s President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih affirmed the government’s efforts to boost the tourism sector following the heavy impact in 2020 over Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Ministry of Tourism, the 18 planned resort openings for 2021 will increase the tourism bed capacity by an additional 5,062.
