MDFA orders cease on “Stars” spring onion sale and consumption

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has ordered an immediate recall of “Stars” brand spring onions in the Maldivian market over pesticide contamination claims.

In a statement released on Monday, 14 February the authority claimed on receiving an alert from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) of the European Commission over possibilities of contaminated vegetables imported into the Maldives.

MFDA has since ordered an immediate cessation of sale and consumption of the product until further notice is provided.

Meanwhile, the authority is attempted to assess the health risks the product may impose.
