On Monday, 21 February 2022, it was reported that the Maldives telecommunication provider Dhiraagu has signed an agreement to connect the island nation to an international submarine cable network.
As such, Maldives will be linking to the “Sea-Me-We 6” cable system along with ten other countries.
While the entire connectivity project is expected to complete by 2025, the project will see underwater cables running a total length of 19,200 kilometers bridge high-speed connection from South Korea to Europe, reaching through India and the Middle East.
The submarine cable system will reportedly deliver speeds up to 100 Tbps.
Speaking about the recent initiative, Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Mr. Ismail Rasheed commented that the company’s decision falls in line with their commitment to providing unhindered and fast connectivity to the consumers.
