Installation of Addu City “Waste to Energy” plantation commences

Reports confirm that the official works on installing the necessary machinery for the “waste to energy” plantation in Addu City have commenced.

The State Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Mr. Ali Solih on Tuesday, 22 March 2022, confirmed the latest initiative.

Moreover, Mr. Solih attested that the waste to energy plantation will be installed at the Addu Regional Waste Management facility.

The plantation was assembled abroad after which the commission machinery was flown into the Maldives for the eventual installation.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology has asserted that the plantation will have the capacity of generating power by burning 500 tons of waste per day.

Additionally, the ministry confirms that the plantation will have the capacity of generating close to 1.5 MegaWatts of power out of which 500 KiloWatts will be utilized in operating the facility while the remainder will be distributed to the central electricity grid of Addu City.
