Green Fund hit MVR96.59mn in May 2022

Maldives state has collected a total of MVR96.59 million in green taxes for the month of May 2022, as per the latest update from Ministry of Finance.

Green tax is levied on tourism properties at a rate of USD6.00 per day on tourist resorts, tourist vessels and hotels and at a rate of USD3.00 per day on guesthouses.

All tourism properties are tax liable for green tax automatically upon registration with the Ministry of Tourism.

As per the latest update from the ministry, Kaafu atoll collected the highest revenue in green tax recorded at MVR10.2 million. The second highest revenue of green tax was reported from Raa atoll at MVR7.3 million.

Third highest collection came from Baa atoll, which is also listed under UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The atoll collected a total of MVR7.1 million in green tax. On the other hand, fourth highest green tax earnings came from Dhaal atoll which was reported at MVR6.9 million and fifth highest from Alif Alif atoll at MVR6.8 million.
