Dive Desk’s Adam Ashraf becomes the fourth Maldivian to become a PADI Course Director on Sunday.
Ashraf, 37, is the Managing Director of the PADI 5 star dive centre Dive Desk based in the capital Male’. He completed the highest rating in recreational SCUBA diving in a training program held in Thailand.
Course Directors can teach PADI Instructor Courses (IDCs) and conduct trainings for other instructor levels, and are selected for their experience and training goals are and selected through a competitive application process. It is the highest and most well respected professional rating in SCUBA diving.
Ashraf’s first IDC as a Course Director is expected to take place in Fuvahmulah from 21st July to 5th August 2022, and will be the first program held in the south of the country. His second IDC will be held in Male’ for candidates selected from the governments fully-funded diving professionals scheme.
Ashraf has five years of experience conducting IDCs in the country, working alongside renowned Course Director Mark Soworka of Dive Careers Worldwide to conduct fifteen Instructor Development Courses in The Maldives. He is also the leader of the Instructor Development team at Dive Desk, which he founded 8 years ago with his wife Nadha to support and train the local diving community.
Ashraf was first accepted into the Course Director Training program in 2019, but the program was halted by PADI during the pandemic. Ashraf joined the first program held in Asia following the easing of restrictions.
