Maldives records nearly 900k tourist arrivals so far in 2022

According to the statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism, 892,960 tourist arrivals have been recorded this year by 18th July, with 79,749 arrivals so far in the month of July exclusively.

This is a 4.8% decline and 6% growth; in comparison with the respective periods in 2019, and 58.2% growth and 47.9% growth respectively with the same periods in 2021.

Tourism Ministry’s statistics further show that the an average of 4,430 tourist arrivals have been recorded per day in July, with 5,200 arrivals on 9th July. The average stay of the tourists is 8 days.

The highest number of tourists have arrived from India so far this year. The second highest number of tourists arrived from the UK, followed by Russia, Germany and Italy.

Total arrivals in 2021, 2020 and 2019 are 1,321,932, 555,494, and 1,702,887 respectively. The decline in tourist arrival numbers is due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the halt of airline and tourism operations worldwide. The government aims to attract 1.6 million tourists by the end of this year. MMPRC and the government are closely working together to achieve this goal.
