Popular third space cafe’ Family Room Coffee opened it’s flagship property in Hulhumale’ Phase II on Saturday night.

The soft-opening ceremony was inaugurated with its loyal customer base, with live music and a thank-you note from its founder Ahmed Afrah. Family Room Cafe’, owned by local specialty coffee brand Coffee Lab Roasters, is a staple popular hangout spot amongst youth in the capital Male’.

The cafe’s concept, which is a communal setting for coffee with free-wifi and workspace, is popular amongst locals, work permit holders and tourists alike.

“This brand stands on one word: that is relationships. We say we’re brewing relationships. So I’d like to thank everyone for their support. We had generous support from a lot of people – family, friends and loyal customers – to start this place.” Afrah said to clients in a speech broadcast live from it’s social media.

Speaking to Maldives Business Review about the decision to move to Phase II, the up and coming suburb in Hulhumale’, Afrah said it was to expand the space available.

“Our first property is too small. There is a lot of demand for the business and during busy hours, the space would be filled so we wanted to look for a place that can accommodate a lot of people. Phase II now also has a lot of people living there so we decided to move there.”

The new property can be found in Lot 20018, Beachfront, Phase 2, Hulhumale’.

Earlier in the week, Family Room announced that it has closed its outlet in the capital Male’ in a new restrategized business approach.
