Tourism industry remains a major catalyst to state revenue growth

Tourist arrivals exceeds 900,000 in annual terms as of July 21, reports the Maldives Ministry of Tourism.

The ministry’s latest Tourism Status Update confirms total arrival in annual terms at 900,808 which is a 57.5% increment in comparison with the same period last year.

In 2021, tourist arrivals for the said period stood at just 572,123.

Despite strong tourist arrival numbers in 2022, it is still 4.8% below in comparison with the same period of 2019, during which arrival count stood at 946,064.

India maintains top source market spot with 132,151 annual arrivals, with a market share of 14.7% while United Kingdom ranks second with 104,667 arrivals with a market share of 11.6%.

Russia is in third spot with 94,151 arrivals, with a market share of 10.5% and Germany remains consistent in fourth with 73,118 arrivals with a market share of 8.1%.

Italy is the fifth strongest source market with 51,850 annual arrivals.
