Kudagiri Picnic island’s official opening pushed three months back

Maldives government reports the new picnic island will now officially open for picnic-goers after three months.

The island of Kudagiri, developed at the lagoon 10.5 kilometers from Male’ City by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is currently in-development.

Government confirms of both landscaping and tree-planting works at ongoing capacity, while several other state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are engaged in various development-related aspects.

State Electric Company (STELCO) earlier completed installing electricity distribution boxes and power cables in the island.

A  government official speaking on behalf of the ongoing president-pledged initiative, claims the opening has been pushed back in favor of better development.

The official further clarifies tree planting initiative will complete within three months, after which the island expects a grand unveiling.

MTCC completed development of the island after reclaiming eight hectares of land from the lagoon. While STELCO completed installation of electricity network in the island, Fenaka Corporation is tasked with powering the island for which the utility provider is currently developing an in-land powerhouse.
