Local Market Prices Stabilize After Days of High Activity

Local market prices have begun to stabilize after days of high prices and activity.

Prices of watermelon, chili and bananas shot up on the first day of Ramadan.

However, boosted by an increased supply, prices of these items have lowered. As such, prices of chili are now stable between MVR 35 – MVR 50 per 100 grams, while watermelons now sell for MVR 16 per kilo.

‘This year’s supply was a bit on the lower side. There was not enough produce on the first day of Ramdan, hence the rise in prices,’ a vendor reported to local media sources.
