China Harbor Engineering and Construction Company (CHEC) is to connect water pipeline and a fiber optic cable between Male’ and Hulhumale’, via the Male’ Hulhumale’ Bridge.
The agreement for this project was reached between CHEC and Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
In a press statement released following the agreement, the project would be completed before end of September 2018. The project is worth MVR 1.6 million.
Under the project, the Center created in Hulhumale’ first phase, would become the main hub for production and storage of water and to create a pumping system that would supply water when needed to both Male’ and Hulhumale’. MWSC added that this was part of the water security plan drawn up by the Company.

CHEC is the parent company of the China Communication and Construction Company (CCCC), the company creating the said Male’ Hulhumale’ Bridge. Presently, the bridge is being linked by pillars using superstructures.
The entire bridge project is valued at US$ 200 million, out of which US$ 116 million is grant aid from the Government of China. An additional US$ 72 million is coming as loan aid from China while the Government of the Maldives is spending US$ 12 million.
