Fenaka Corporation Limited has revealed that over 800 households have applied for the Home Solar programme.

Ahmed Saeed, the Managing Director of Fenaka told State Media PSM that the Home Solar programme has received praise and that Fenaka aims to install solar panels in 1,000 households by the end of 2022.

Fenaka noted that the programme is a small cost investment and would bring a permanent solution to ever-increasing electricity bills. Fenaka has expected the electricity bills will be reduced by 97%, as a MVR 2,000 bill of a household would drop to MVR 60.

Noting that green power plants installed on roofs will have low maintenance costs, the electricity company further stated the home solar system can be used for 20-25 years.

The program’s goal is to substantially reduce electricity costs for the general public while simultaneously assisting the government’s efforts to reduce the nation’s excessive reliance on imported fossil fuels and reach the goal of net zero emissions by 2030.

The home solar programme was introduced in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.
