Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) launched their fifth, and largest dredger in their fleet ‘Bodu Jarraafa’ during a ceremony held in Gaafu Alif Atoll Dhaandhoo.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, Dhaandhoo MP Yauqoob Abdulla, Managing Director of Fenaka Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, CEO of MTCC Adam Azim, and other senior officials of the company.
During the ceremony, physical works Dhaandhoo Land Reclamation Project, the maiden project of “Bodu Jarraafa”, was also commenced.
Speaking during the ceremony, Azim revealed that the project will be completed by October. A bridge will connect the reclaimed area to the existing land in Dhaandhoo.
The Land Reclamation and Shore Protection Project of Dhaandhoo was contracted to MTCC by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure in November 2020.
MTCC revealed that the scope of the project consists of dredging and reclamation operations of 25 hectares, construction of a 1,238m rock boulder revetment, and 240m groynes.
MTCC is tasked with completing the project at a cost of USD12 million.
