Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun the physical works under the Harbour Development Project in Shaviyani Atoll Maaungoodhoo.
The project was commenced during a ceremony held in Maaungoodhoo on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by Shaviyani Funadhoo Constituency Parliament Member Mohammed Shahid, Maungoodhoo Council President Adam Salim, MTCC CEO Adam Azim and other senior officials of the company.
MTCC noted once the Harbour Project is completed, the difficulties of docking and mooring will be solved. The island, which is famous for its agriculture and fishing, will receive economic benefits after the completion of the project.
Under the project, 59,013 square metres of new harbour basin will be dredged, along with 3245 square metres dredged along the harbour entry point. Additionally, construction of 362 metres of breakwater, installation of 105 metres of rivetment, contruction of 312 metres of quay wall, construction of 90 square metres of habour pavement, and installation of harbour and street lights will be carried out under the project.
The project was contracted to MTCC at MVR 59.71 million.,
