A fire broke out in a fish factory in Thaa Atoll Hirilandhoo, resulting in massive damages and a huge loss. Although the fire did not result in any injuries, it has reportedly caused MVR 70,000 in losses.
Hirilandhoo Council member Ali Assad told local media Vaguthu Online that the fire broke out at 9:00 pm on Tuesday, September 20, and was seen by locals hanging around island’s jetty area.
Even though the fire was extinguished half an hour later, the fish factory sustained severe structural damages, Assad said.
“The factory was almost completely burnt down. The rest of it had collapsed. There was a lot of damage, a loss of MVR 70,000,” Assad explained.
Assad further told there are three people working in the fish factory, two foreigners and the owner, who left after finishing the work with the stoves turned off.
While the exact cause of the fire is unknown, the Police are currently investigating the incident.
