‘Baakhiraa’ takes home nearly MVR 900K following a hefty 51-tonne catch

Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Faresmaathoda’s ‘Baakhiraa’ fishing vessel has managed to catch 51 tonnes of tuna in one day, receiving nearly MVR 900,000 as payout.

According to Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), ‘Baakhiraa’ brought in 51.9 tonnes of tuna for processing, receiving MVR 882,674 as the payout.

MIFCO said the amount will be deposited into the vessel’s account on Sunday. Every week, MIFCO has designated Sunday as the day for depositing the money.

The ‘Baakhiraa’ vessel is a prominent fishing vessel that catches large quantities of tuna. The latest catch of 51.9 tonnes of tuna is a record high as well.

MIFCO’s record for the highest tuna catch is held by TS Line vessel from Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Madaveli. On Septemer 29, TS Line caught 57.1 tonnes of tuna, receiving a payout of MVR 971,584. TS Line is currently the most prominent fishing vessel in the Maldives. In 2021, MIFCO processed 1095.8 tonnes of tuna caught by the vessel.
