Earnings from Green Taxes Increase by 22 percent

Statistics issued by state shows that earnings from green taxes had increased by 22 percent.

Statistics released by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) showed that by end of January this year, MVR 395 million was recorded as earnings from green taxes. The previous year, green taxes accounted for MVR 321 million.

Green taxes were launched in 2015, to bring in around a billion Maldivian Rufiyaa to the state.

Green taxes are taken from establishments catering to tourists, including tourist resorts, tourist hotels, safaris and similar establishments. US$ 6 is charged per day from each tourist.
