LG unveils stretchable screen that can wrap around skin, cars, and fabric

LG Display unveiled on Tuesday the world’s first high-resolution stretchable display.

The technology allows for the 12-inch screen to be stretched up to 14 inches and also folded and twisted without any damage, LG said.

The color display has a resolution of 100 pixels per inch. The display uses micro-LED light sources and is made of the same silicon material as contact lenses.

LG Display hopes to commercialize the new technology. The thin, rubberlike material can contour to skin, fabric and metal machines. It has promise in the automotive, fashion and service industries, LG said.

The stretchable display was the product of a company-led project in partnership with Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
