Big Fish reels in a big win as the biggest yellowfin tuna exporter

Big Fish Maldives received the award for exporting the biggest volume of yellowfin tuna in 2021. The company was also recognized for purchasing the biggest volume of reef fish in 2021, as well.

On Sunday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih conferred the award during the official Fishermen’s Day celebration in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Faresmaathoda. Shafin Ahmed, CEO of Big Fish Maldives, attended the ceremony to accept the prize.

Shafin acknowledged the triumph to the efforts of Big Fish employees as well as the backing of local fishermen over the last five years.

Big Fish Maldives, founded in 2017, is a well-known Maldivian tuna exporter. The firm primarily sells sashimi-grade tuna to locations in the United States, Asia, and the European Union. The firm established an industry standard for sustainability, food safety, and compliance.

Big Fish factory is located in Kaafu atoll Hinmafushi, and they are seeking to increase the capacity by initiating a USD 5 million project. They will be investing further USD 10 million to build a skipjack tuna processing complex in Gaaf Dhaal atoll Thinadhoo.
