MACL confirms over 2600 private jets landed in VIA in 2022

Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) has confirmed that 2610 private jets landed in Velana International Airport, Maldives’ main arrival hub in capital Male’ City, in 2022.

According to MACL, this is a 53% increase compared to the jets arrivals prior to pandemic in 2019.

In addition, the air traffic movement by November 2022 saw a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2019. During the period, air traffic movement was at 24,000 in 2019, and 27,000 in 2022.

Several major airlines commencing flight operations to Maldives contributed to the increase in air traffic movements. According to MACL, 8 additional airlines began operating flights to Maldives ahead of peak tourism season (winter season); British Airways, Air France, Australian Airways, Neos Airlines, Euro Wings, Condo, Lot Air and Ita Airways.

Though British Airways operate seasonal flights to Maldives, MACL expects the airline to operate daily flights in 2023, bringing in more tourists to the three-time World’s Leading Destination.

Meanwhile VIA began operations of the new runway in October 2022, cutting down major delays in take-off and landing due to constraints in space before.
