VIA’s Noovilu Seaplane Terminal wins 2022 Global Best Projects Award

The newly opened Noovilu Seaplane Terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) won the 2022 Global Best Projects Awards of Engineering News Record (ENR) winning the award in Merit of Airport/Port category.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the main air gateway’s operator received the award at the 10th annual ENR Global Projects Awards held virtually, earlier on December 12, 2022.

A total of 18 winning categories which included 34 projects in 18 different countries were listed in this year’s ENR Global Projects Awards.

ENR Global Best Projects identifies and recognizes the team’s effort to build the facility on time while overcoming Covid-19 pandemic travel restrictions, worker shortage and supply-chain disruptions.

Noovilu Seaplane Terminal is the biggest seaplane terminal currently in the world which has a floating dock area able to accommodate over 55 seaplanes. The building, a four-story, 28,000 square-meters terminal contains spacious lounges and boarding gates, offices and operational spaces.

MACL began operating the new seaplane terminal earlier on October 6, 2022.
