Kudagiri picnic island opens for public booking

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Thursday, February 9, announced that the Kudagiri picnic island is now officially open for public booking.

According to HDC, booking the picnic island through the official website will be effective from 16:00hrs, Thursday onwards.

While booking has become available, the island will officially welcome its guests on Saturday, February 11.

The island has the capacity of providing services to between 500 to 600 people at the same time. However, only 300 people will be welcomed on its official unveiling day.

A dedicated ferry service will operate between Male’ City and the picnic island, while those who wish to hire their own transfer can make such arrangements as well.

For the ferry service, locals will have to pay MVR 25 per trip. The visitors must also pay an entrance fee of MVR 50 for adults and half of this amount for children below the age of 12.

HDC said transfers to the island via ferry on public holidays will be free of charge.

Visitors arranging their own transfer to the island must pay a fee of MVR 250 to berth the vessel for half a day, and MVR 500 for full-day berthing.

The island can be accessed only by booking picnics via the website/application. Visitors who wish to book the island for picnics can also book various huts for half-day or full-day use.

Visitors must pay MVR 250 for half-day use of the smaller huts and MVR 500 for full-day use. Additionally, if the visitors wish to book the larger hut for full-day use, they must pay MVR 1,200.
