State collects MVR100.8mn in Green Tax in January 2023

A few tourists in Kandinma Maldives; Green Tax is collected from tourism properties

The Maldives government collected a total of MVR100.8 million in Green Tax in January 2023, reported the Ministry of Finance.

According to the ministry, state collected an exact total of MVR100,789,699.40 in the review month. The Green Tax total collected from tourist resorts and guesthouses amounted to MVR99,955,910.87 and another MVR1,831,674.91 from liveaboards and safari vessels. The state also collected MVR2,113.62 in Green Tax from homestays as well.

Highest Collections (by Atoll)

  1. Kaafu Atoll: MVR 37,057,452.75
  2. Alifu Dhaal Atoll: MVR 12,475,187.19
  3. Raa Atoll: MVR 8,512,722.84
  4. Baa Atoll: MVR 7,537,121.81
  5. Alifu Alifu Atoll: MVR 6,355,322.67

While the highest was collected from Kaafu Atoll, the lowest was collected from Gnaviyani Atoll at just MVR 9,203.88.

The government spent a total of MVR 74,827,651.37 from Green Fund on various urban developmental projects. Green Tax revenue collected to the state is directed to the Green Fund.
