AIA to Begin Direct Flights from Gan to South Africa

Addu International Airport announces that they are to begin direct flights from Gan in Addu City to South Africa.

Managing Director Mohamed Latheef reported to local media sources they were in the process of initiating direct flights between the two destinations. He added that if all goes to schedule, they will be able to start flights by end of this year. He noted that tour operators have already set up base in Addu.

‘We are in discussions with two other airlines. Hopefully, we will be able to start scheduled direct flights between South African and Gan by end of November or early December,’ he added.

Addu Airport was re-opened, after massive renovations, in 2016. Last year, the airport started direct flights from Sri Lankan Airlines.

The Government of Maldives had launched an ambitious plan to expand tourism in the city. As part of the Government’s plans, they are currently working on changing Dhoogas guesthouse to a 50-bed city hotel.
