Coconut prices have risen in the Maldivian market.
The price on coconuts went from MVR300 per bag to MVR1,600 per bag while a single coconut is sold between MVR15 and MVR35 currently.
Coconuts were sold at MVR250 and MVR300 per bag three months ago, while a single coconut was sold between MVR5 and MVR15.
Male’ City vendors purchase coconuts from other atolls generally, while the islands of HA. Kelaa, AA. Thoddoo and K. Kaashidhoo are among the top contributors. Additionally, Laamu atoll and Addu atoll are notable contributors as well.
Meanwhile, a local vendor has said that the price of the commodity has gone up ahead of Ramadan owing to limited availability from the atolls. Another vendor has said that they now import coconuts from India due to limited availability, while the price remains the same as coconuts purchased locally.
