ADK Hospital has introduced a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine on its 36th anniversary.

The new machine was officially unveiled by the State Minister of the Ministry of Health Dr. Shah Mahir.

ADK Hospital introduced the Magnetom Lumina (3T) MRI system, which will be 50% faster than the previous machine used in the hospital. The new machine also gives better-detailed scans and makes less noise.

The new machine is designed to ensure maximum comfort for the patients and reduces the chances of patients getting suffocating sensations while inside it. The hospital further said that the machine is suitable for stroke patients and children as well.

ADK Hospital’s Managing Director Ahmed Affal said that the hospital is always committed to introducing modern and state-of-the-art medical technology and equipment to enhance services provided to patients.

“We were the first to install an MRI machine and operate it in the Maldives. It will be 20 years since the first MRI scan was made here, and today, we have expanded the service,” Affal said.

“Currently patients have to wait nearly two weeks on ADK’s MRI waitlist. We make an average of 45 MRI scans daily, but with the introduction of our new machine, we will be able to make 90 scans each day which will greatly reduce the waiting period.”

The hospital is targeting to make 100 MRI scans every day and is currently working to introduce Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan; which is currently not available in the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Mahir emphasized on the importance of introducing advanced medical services in private health institutions and thanked ADK Hospital for its efforts in developing the health sector in the Maldives. He also said that the integration of new medical advancements in the hospital will reduce the number of locals traveling abroad for medical reasons.
