Re-imagining Tourism Project concludes

The Re-imagining Tourism Project initiated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Maldives in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Laamu Atoll Council concluded on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

The project was commenced with the aim to diversify and further develop community-based tourism in the atoll.

The ceremony held at L. Fonadhoo to mark the completion of the project was attended by the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, who was accompanied by a team from the ministry, UNDP Resident Representative Enrico Gaveglia, and the atoll and island council members.

Activities carried under the framework of the project included designing a special website; islands.mv to promote local islands, development and implementation of Laamu AToll resource mapping and sustainability threshold, re-skilling programs for community based tourism, and providing business grant models to local communities.

The objective of the grant activity is to implement priority actions to assist island councils of the atoll in the expansion of local tourism, assist in the development of sustainable tourism, and assist the atoll council in managing and developing the local heritage sites in Laamu atoll.
