HDC commences Thilafushi Phase 2 reclamation

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has begun the reclamation of Thilafushi Phase 2 initiative.

HDC contracted China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), for the reclamation. The contractor is currently constructing the boundary wall required for the process.

The Phase 2 initiative is focused on creating a sustainable and adaptable industrial hub. HDC said that the plan was to move all industrial works in Male’ City to Thilafushi.

CHEC, the project’s contractor, is a subsidiary of the Sinamale’ Bridge developer China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). The sister company is also responsible for maintaining the Sinamale’ Bridge.

The reclamation project will take place under various phases, while the contractor is set to reclaim 40 hectares of land during the first phase which will be completed in eight months.

HDC reports the complete reclamation of Phase 2, which is 151 hectares of land, will take two years.
