Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has announced plans to launch shipping/liner operations to both Kulhudhuffushi and Addu cities.
The state shipping company is currently seeking a vessel for the new routes.
The shipping corporation had earlier in October 2020 launched direct operations between Addu City and Tuticorin, India. The shipper however, discontinued the operation in March 2022 citing lack of local industry support or involvement.
MSS utilized a 4,000-ton vessel between its Addu City-Tuticorin operations while the combined total of imports of Addu City businesses did not exceed 300 tons; making the enterprise a largely financially excessive operation.
The remainder of the vessel used in the operation was utilized to carry goods for State Trading Organization (STO) and for ongoing projects in Addu City. The operational demand saw a noticeable decline following conclusion of many of these projects.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of MSS Captain Mohamed Nazim said that the corporation began seeking a shipping vessel for its Kulhudhuffushi and Addu operations a month earlier.
Nazim also claimed that the new ship will be comparatively smaller in size from the previous vessel; and will be ideal for the shipping operations between the new routes.
MSS has already completed its financial projections ahead of the planned operations, ensuring the overall sustainability and profitability for the company.
