Zakat is a form of almsgiving that is mandatory on all abled Muslims, and is one of the five pillars of Islam. The two types of Zakat are Zakat-al-Fitr, paid before the end of Ramadan and Zakat-al-Mal paid at any time, provided that the individual’s earnings reflect one year’s worth of net savings and that their earnings reach the Nisab level.

Nisab is the minimum threshold of wealth a Muslim must possess before they become eligible to pay Zakat.
