Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is seeking contractors to develop a bulk port in Kaafu atoll Thilafushi.
MPL has invited interested contractors to express their interest to develop a deep-sea bulk port by April 26, 2023. The project is aimed at creating a modern, efficient, and sustainable port to handle bulk cargo and container-carrying vessels.
The new port, upon completion, will temporarily handle all cargo operations currently included at the Male’ Commercial Harbor venue with the exception of general or conventional cargo.
Project Scope
- Construction and commissioning port infrastructure (including dredging and reclamation)
- Breakwaters, quay walls, apron, roadways, a container yard, entry and exit gates
- Terminal buildings
The project also includes development of a warehouse area, security posts, and installation of cargo handling and scanning equipment.
The contractor must also provide ancillary facilities like warehouses, truck parking, utility infrastructure, operations and maintenance area as well as maintenance and repairs services for a specified duration after the construction.
Interested bidders should have experience in constructing deep-sea commercial ports, and possess the necessary financial, technical, and human resources to undertake the project.
The project will be carried out under a contractor-financed engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, so the contractor must have the relevant capacity for it.
