Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed laying the foundation of Raa atoll Alifushi airport’s terminal.
MTCC began the project on November 6, 2022 and expects to complete it before the end of 2023.
The contractor first began developing the fire building. The contractor is currently installing the roof of the structure.
Project scope involved reclamation of 50.5 hectares of land from Alifushi, out of which 80% of land will be used to develop the airport. Out of the remaining land, 10% will be used to develop housing for the residents and issue plots for economic activities.
The island’s land area will increase to 90 hectares with the reclaimed area.
Other project components include construction of a 2,871-meter revetment. Additionally, MTCC will install a 1,200-meter runway strip, apron, taxiway, and roads.
Structural development under the project include a fire building, and ancillary services. MTCC will also install a 655-meter security fence.
Project value is MVR 426.05 million.
