Drifting vessels in Hulhumale’ lagoon raises concerns

The National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM) has raised concerned over unmanned drifting vessels in Hulhumale’ lagoon.

The association claimed it has notified the issue to Urbanco, Ministry of Tourism, and the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation as well.

According to the association, the old and weary fishing vessels have been drifting in the lagoon without anyone on board. NBAM further noted that the vessels were scraping against other docked vessels and causing damage.

Photos of the vessels show that they are significantly old and rusty. The lagoon has four such vessels berthed, which are now loose.
