Maldives tourist arrivals exceed 700k, close to hitting 1M

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the total tourist arrivals so far in 2023 has exceeded 700,000.

The ministry in their latest update revealed that the total tourist arrivals as of May 10, stood at 731,783. With this arrival total, the country is less than 300,000 shy from reaching 1 million arrivals.

Earlier this year, the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom announced an annual arrival target of 1.8 million. He further said that the arrivals will likely observe a 10% bump once the Chinese tourist market resumes to the Maldives.

China began its outbound travels earlier in 2023 after a near three-year hiatus following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ministry reported a 17.1% increase in the annual tourist arrivals this year compared to the same period in 2022, during which arrivals stood at 625,011.
