An increase of travelers from United States and France has boosted arrivals to the Maldives this year.
Statistics issued by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) stated that so far this year, arrivals from US were at 20,584; an increase of 12.7 percent. Last year to date, this figure was at 18,267.
Comparing month to month, in June 2018 3,129 US citizens had visited the Maldives. In 2017 June, this was at 2,754. This is an increase of 13.6 percent and MMPRC attributed this to targeted promotions to the US market.
French market progress was even more significant, with an increase of 23.2 percent comparing the year to date figures of the two years. In 2017, 24,645 French citizens made Maldives their vacation destination. This was at 30,360 so far this year.
When comparing the arrivals on a month to month basis, in June 2017 701 visited. With a 50 percent increase, arrivals from France in June 2018 were at 1,057.
The rapid change was attributed to the commencement of direct flights between Paris and the Maldives.
