A ceremony is slated for Wednesday afternoon to commemorate the occasion. According to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the island nation expects hitting 1.8 million tourist arrivals with the flight scheduled for arrival in the Maldives at 14:55hrs.

While Maldives expects hitting the initial target on Wednesday, the previous government set a target to attract 1.9 million tourists by the end of 2023. For this, Maldives is required to attract 10,000 tourists in the 10 remaining days of the current year.

The daily arrival average is currently flickering within the range of 5,000; indicating that the annual arrival target may be achieved since the winter season which coincides with the tourism peak season has almost commenced.
